Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) shows that deer hunters in Missouri harvested nearly 100,000 deer during opening weekend of the fall firearms season November 10 and 11.
A news release says 99,567 deer were harvested, including the top harvest counties of Franklin with 2,057 deer checked, Callaway with 1,971 and Benton with 1,875.
According to MDC’s website, Cooper County hunters harvested the most deer in the KMMO listening area with 1,124. That was followed by Pettis with 963; Howard with 962; Chariton with 956; Carroll with 947; Saline with 791; and Lafayette with 603.
Last year, hunters checked 94,886 deer during opening weekend.
The November portion of fall firearms deer season continues through Tuesday, November 20.
Archery deer season opens again November 21 through January 15, 2019. The late youth portion runs November 23-25. The antlerless portion runs November 30 through December 2. The alternative-methods portion runs December 22 through January 1, 2019.
