Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) shows that hunters- ages 6 through 15- harvested 2,556 deer during Missouri’s late youth portion of the deer-hunting season from November 23-25.
A news release says, the top counties were Wayne with 47; Ripley with 46; and Franklin, Macon and Osage each with 45 deer checked.
In the KMMO listening area, youth hunters checked the most deer in Cooper County with 31. It was followed by Carroll with 30, Howard with 29, Saline with 24, Pettis with 20, Chariton with 19 and Lafayette with 16.
Last year’s harvest total for the late youth portion was 3,115.
Up next for deer hunting in Missouri is the antlerless portion of firearms’ deer season, which runs Nov. 30 through Dec. 2. Lastly the alternative methods portion will run Dec. 22 through Jan. 1, 2019. Archery deer hunting also continues through January 15, 2019.
