The Marshall Police Department wants to inform the public of an email scam regarding bomb threats which have been reported in numerous states including Missouri.
According to the department, random locations such as schools, businesses, stores and hospitals are receiving emails from a bot(a randomly generating email system) saying there is a bomb threat and to pay a ransom by using Bitcoins or online currency.
So far, reports of the demands have been received in New York, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Louisiana, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Utah, California, Illinois, Mississippi and Missouri.
Authorities have found no credible evidence in any of these emails that the threats are real.
If anyone receives an email like this, you are urged to contact your local law-enforcement agency, MPD at (660) 886-7411 or by email at info@marshallpolice.com.
