A Sedalia man charged with several felonies for an alleged kidnapping incident earlier this month in Pettis County has a court proceeding on Friday, December 28.
A probable-cause statement says Sedalia Police officers responded to a report of a male subject who was detained for allegedly trying to abduct a 10-year-old female in the 300 block of West 7th Street on December 15. Officers spoke with several witnesses at the scene as they had detained 28-year-old Corey Owens. Officers eventually handcuffed Owens as he reportedly resisted several times and was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
According to the witnesses, Owens was noticed to be dragging the victim by the arm down the street as she was yelling for help.
Online court documents say Owens has been charged with a Class B Felony for First-Degree Kidnapping; a Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance; and two Class E Felonies for Assault in the Third Degree and Resisting Arrest. Bond was originally set at $100,000 cash or surety.
Owens appeared for his arraignment hearing and his bond was increased to $250,000 cash or surety on December 18. Owens is scheduled to appear for as case hearing at 9 a.m. at Pettis County Circuit Court.
