A Marshall man who has been arrested and formally charged in connection with a shooting incident which left one dead on Saturday, December 29, 2018, in Marshall was due in court on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.
According to a news release from the Marshall Police Department, at approximately 6:14 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance in progress on Viking Lane. Upon arrival, 31-year-old Joshua Charles Smith, of Marshall, was found to have sustained injuries from an apparent gunshot wound, was transported by ambulance to Fitzgibbon Hospital for treatment, and later was pronounced deceased.
According to online court documents, on December 30, a warrant was issued and 55-year-old James Scott Miller has been charged with a Class A Felony for Second-Degree Murder and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. Bond has been set at $500,000 cash only.
Online documents also say Miller was scheduled to be formally arraigned at 9 a.m. at Saline County Circuit Court. KMMO News will update this story when more information becomes available.
