A Sedalia man who has been charged with a felony for allegedly possessing explosive materials in Pettis County is due in court on Monday, January 7.
A probable-cause statement says a person spoke with the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office about a text message they received from 37-year-old Cody Lappat on September 24, 2018. The text message from Lappat reportedly stated he was “going to show people and the cops just how crazy he was.” The concerned citizen went to Lappat’s residence to talk to him and reportedly noticed he was in the process of making a “pipe bomb” with PVC pipe and gun power. Lappat reportedly stated he was going to “blow stuff up and cause harm to someone he knew.”
Deputies reportedly found materials commonly used in making explosives at Lappat’s residence during the execution of a search warrant and arrested him.
Online court documents say Lappat has been charged with a Class D Felony for Unlawful Possession or the Manufacturing of an Illegal Weapon. Bond originally was set at $50,000 cash or surety. His lawyer’s request for bond reduction was approved on October 23. Lappat’s $25,000 surety bond was posted on November 1.
Lappat is due for an arraignment hearing at 1:30 p.m. at Pettis County Circuit Court.
