A Sedalia resident has been charged with multiple felonies for allegedly burglarizing multiple homes last month.
According to a post on its Facebook page, Sedalia Police officers reported to burglaries at residences in the 800 block of Ruth Ann Drive on December 24 and on Driftwood and Honeysuckle Drives on December 28. During the first break-in, the suspect allegedly assaulted the resident. Images from the surveillance video (Driftwood Drive) were posted on the SPD Facebook page, and several leads were followed.
On January 3, SPD detectives contacted 59-year-old James “Jimmy” Elves. Through the course of the interview, detectives located evidence which linked Elves to all three burglaries, and he was arrested.
Online court documents say Elves has been charged with a Class A Felony Robbery in the first Degree; Class B Felonies for Assault in the Second Degree and Burglary in the First Degree; a Class E Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon; and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action, with bond set at $500,000 cash or surety for the incident on Ruth Ann Drive. He has been charged with a Class B Felony Burglary in the First Degree and a property-damage misdemeanor, with bond set at $50,000 cash or surety for the incident on Honeysuckle Drive. He also is facing a Class D Felony for Burglary in the Second Degree, with bond set at $3,500 cash or surety, for the incident on Driftwood Drive.
The Facebook post says the case still is under investigation, and additional charges could be filed.
An initial hearing for Elves in each case is pending at Pettis County Circuit Court.
