Sweet Springs residents are going to have a bond issue to vote on in April.
According to unofficial minutes from a special meeting of the Board of Aldermen on Thursday, January 3, McClure Engineering representative Mike Hall was there to discuss the lagoon project.
Mayor Franny Vaught asked about the sludge currently in the lagoon. Hall said with the current bid- the south cell, which is the small cell- will be cleaned out 100 percent; with the possibility of taking out some of the sludge in the large cell. Hall said the reason to remove the sludge is because, over time, the bacteria cannot do its job.
Alderman Wyatt Lea asked how long the city would have if it didn’t remove all of the sludge from the large cell. Hall said the cell is about half full, and the city would need to establish a sludge removal plan.
The board voted unanimously to have an issue put before voters on the ballot during the Municipal Election on Tuesday, April 2- the same bond issue voters had in April 2012.
