The Higginsville Board of Aldermen approved to increase the cost of burial fees at the city cemetery during its meeting on Monday, January 7.
City Administrator Jeanette Dobson said the board approved an ordinance regarding the grave opening fees and charges for grave sales at the city cemetery. With the last increase occurring in 1999, the board determined the increase was necessary due to the increased cost of ongoing care of the lots and preparation of graves for burial.
The board approved the following new fees at the city cemetery: $350 for grave openings ($500 for weekends and holidays); $150 for cremation ($250 for weekends and holidays); and $350 for all grave sales.
In other business, Dobson said the board scheduled a joint meeting with various utility and administration committees to be held after the conclusion of the alderman meeting on February 4.
