Two MoDOT workers suffered injuries after a motorist struck them in a work zone in Clay County on Wednesday, January 9.
According to a release from MoDOT, the accident occurred sometime in the morning hours on Route KK near Highway 169, where crew members were picking up highway signs when a motorists struck one of the workers with their vehicle. That worker was briefly pinned beneath the vehicle as other crew members were able to quickly remove the vehicle off of him. A second crew member was also injured when the motorist’s vehicle struck a maintenance truck. Both crew members have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and it’s believe their injuries are not life threatening.
Reportedly, two MoDOT crews were involved in crashes while they were picking up large debris last week in the St. Louis area. No one was seriously hurt in those incidents.
In light of theses recent events, MoDOT wants to remind motorists to pay close attention while driving in work zones by slowing down, eliminate any distractions and drive safely to ensure everyone is able to arrive alive.
