According to the National Weather Service, in Sedalia there is the potential for steadily falling temperatures with rain beginning late Friday, January 18; with it changing over to snow, with accumulations from one to three inches overnight possible.
A news release from the city of Sedalia says motorists should be aware that pretreatment of the roadways is not as effective during rain or when temperatures fall below 25 degrees, and caution should be used when traveling.
Emergency Snow Routes are being activated at 5 p.m. on Friday, January 18. Drivers who routinely park on streets designated as Emergency Snow Routes will need to move their vehicles to other locations. City crews will be working overnight Friday to ensure Emergency Snow Routes remain open.
Cars remaining parked on Emergency Snow Routes may be towed or plowed in as crews work to keep these roadways open for emergency vehicles. Parking is prohibited along Emergency Snow Routes. A map is available on the city’s website at the website: www.cityofsedalia.com.
The current weather system also is expected to include winds up to 36 mph. Trees and limbs damaged during the winter storm last weekend may fall or be further impacted as a result. City crews will be working through the weekend to clear snow and remove any trees or limbs brought down into roadways, ensuring streets remain open.
As trees and lines are impacted by high winds, power and other service lines have the potential to be impacted and some may fall. To ensure safe travel, motorists are encouraged to remain home, if possible, until after sunrise to assist them in seeing any downed trees, limbs or service lines.
Once the plowed snow has melted sufficiently for street right-of-ways to be clear, the city will announce tree-debris collection dates.
