Two Tampa, Florida, residents recently were sentenced to spend time in the Missouri Department of Corrections relating to an incident in Higginsville on February 3, 2018.
According to a post on the Higginsville Police Department’s Facebook page, an officer was dispatched to Walmart in reference to two subjects– Carlos Williams and Jasmine Gainous– suspected of committing larceny at Walmart in Marshall. The officer made contact with the individuals, and attempted to identify them for the investigation. Both subjects attempted to flee the store. The officer was able to stop the male subject, and a physical altercation occurred.
During the altercation, Gainous came back into the store and pepper-sprayed the officer in an attempt to help Williams. With the help of several Walmart employees, as well as patrons in the store, both subjects were arrested. The officer suffered minor injuries.
On November 19, Gainous pleaded guilty to a Class B Felony for Assault in the Second Degree- Special Victim; and a Class E Felony for Resisting or Interfering with an Arrest. She was sentenced to 12 years on count one and four years on count two- with the sentences to run concurrently.
On December 9, Williams pleaded guilty to a Class D Felony for Assault in the Third Degree- Special Victim; and a Class E Felony for Resisting or Interfering with an Arrest. He was sentenced to seven years on count one and four years on count two- with the sentences to run concurrently.
