During an abbreviated meeting of the Marshall School Board this week, the board approved paying the bills for January at $1.455 million; the monthly finance reports; and the motion to purge surplus property that had been put out for bid.
According to meeting minutes, Superintendent Dr. Carol Maher reported the district would like to implement a “Grow Your Own Teachers” program at the Saline County Career Center. The board approved a request by the administration for it to seek out more information on the program. Career Center Director Callie Dobbins is scheduled to report on the program during the February school board meeting.
During closed session, the board accepted the resignation of Michael Varner as girls softball coach; and the retirements of MHS secretary Lisa Bridges, BMS art/FAC teacher Laura Richardson, Southeast Elementary School kindergarten teacher Stephanie Tobin, Saline County Career Center LPN teacher Kim Davis, and Benton/Southeast Elementary School vocal-music teacher Debra Foreman.
The board also approved a $1,000 stipend for science planning to Glenn Miller; and the employment of Nicole Davenport as a part-time custodian at Benton Elementary School, Kyle Sadler as a science teacher at MHS and Grace Durham as Director of Special Services as of the 2019-20 school year.
