A court proceeding for a Slater man who has been charged with sex-related felonies involving a juvenile is scheduled for next week.
A probable-cause statement says Larry Wayne Powers reportedly admitted to authorities he failed to provide proper sex-offender registration information, including his use of multiple social-media sites to communicate with juveniles. Powers also reportedly detailed sexual encounters with a 15-year-old and admitted he received nude photos from the victim on an unregistered phone in February and March 2018.
Online court documents say 52-year-old Powers has been charged with a Class E Felony for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and two counts of an Unclassified Felony for Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy in the First Degree. Bond has been set at $200,000 cash only. On June 27, his lawyer’s motion for bond reduction was denied by the court.
Powers’ case, who entered a plea of not guilty on August 13, is set for a plea/trial-setting hearing at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 28, at Saline County Circuit Court.
