A Sedalia man faces child endangerment and assault charges for an alleged incident recently in Pettis County.
According to a probable-cause statement, on January 27, a female victim told authorities about an argument with 36-year-old Matthew Childs. Childs reportedly was intoxicated and left the room at one point during the argument to smoke. The victim added she heard Childs yelling at her daughter in the hallway and as she walked into the hallway, she noticed Childs allegedly was “swinging” at the juvenile.
The victim intervened and Childs allegedly bit her finger and punched her in the mouth. The victim reportedly suffered a small puncture wound on her finger and had a sore tooth. The incident was witnessed by the children in the home.
The probable-cause statement also says Childs has a criminal history of domestic assault in several states.
Online court documents say Childs has been charged with two Class E Felonies for Third-Degree Domestic Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the Second Degree. Bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety.
Childs’ initial hearing is pending at Pettis County Circuit Court.
