A Sedalia man is facing a felony for allegedly harassing a female victim by sending her approximately 600 text messages from 14 different phone numbers recently in Pettis County.
A probable-cause statement says the victim told Sedalia Police officers about being harassed by 27-year-old Joshua Miller on January 10. The victim said she told Miller numerous times about not wanting to talk with him and blocked his cell phone number, but Miller allegedly kept contacting the victim by using different phone numbers. The victim added she didn’t respond to most of the messages or told Miller to leave her alone. Also, the victim detailed a situation where Miller allegedly followed her home and she told him to leave, but he stayed in the front yard for an hour.
On January 16, officers spoke with Miller who stated he understood he should stop contacting the victim, but said he couldn’t. Miller also admitted he used a phone app to change phone numbers to keep contacting the victim. The officers reportedly let Miller go after discussing the possible felony charges he could face if he didn’t stop contacting the victim. A few days later, the victim said Miller allegedly began to text her multiple messages again.
Online court documents say Miller has been charged with a Class E Felony for First-Degree Harassment with bond set at $25,000 cash or surety.
Millier’s initial hearing at Pettis County Circuit Court is pending.
