An area school district’s administrator wants to clarify information regarding her district’s makeup days due to inclement
weather.
A release from Marshall Public Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Carol Maher reads: “There’s quite a bit of confusion concerning snow days and how they are made up… the maximum number of makeup days required is 10. This may not be as many days that are actually missed, because after seven days, districts count every other day in the total. We have missed eight days, so we are required to make up seven.”
Dr. Maher’s release continues: “Also, it should have been reported more clearly to the school community and the media that the maximum count isn’t on 10 days of missing school (because the table includes up to Day 14), it is the total of 10 days that will be required to be made up. As of Thursday evening, February 14, the last day of school for students is May 29. It’s a quite confusing formula, and I’m hoping it won’t be necessary to use it beyond what we already have planned.”
