A 33-year-old Higginsville man charged with a felony for allegedly causing harm to a woman and an infant on October 1, 2018, is scheduled to be in court on Wednesday, February 20.
A probable-cause statement says a female told authorities she was assaulted by John Rechterman at a residence in Higginsville. She said Rechterman struck her with an open hand multiple times; made verbal threats to kill her; and as she was trying to leave the residence with her infant, Rechterman went to shove her, but struck the infant instead. The infant’s face reportedly hit a wood cabinet. Authorities say they noticed the female had sustained scratches and hand prints on her body, and the infant had a bruise around its left eye.
Online court documents say Rechterman has been charged with a Class E Felony for Domestic Assault in the Third Degree and two domestic-assault misdemeanors. Rechterman posted $10,000 surety bond on October 3.
Rechterman- whose hearing on February 6 was postponed due to inclement weather- is scheduled to appear for his next hearing at 11 a.m. at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
