Multiple felony charges have been filed against a Brookfield man after an alleged altercation with a law-enforcement officer on February 13.
A probable-cause statement says a Brookfield Police officer investigated an apparent domestic assault in progress. He reportedly asked Matthew Paul Tracy- who appeared to be shaking a female upon the officer’s arrival- to get out of a vehicle. Tracy reportedly failed to comply, so the officer drew his Taser. Tracy reportedly failed to comply with a second request and lunged at the officer. They wrestled on the ground, and Tracy eventually took possession of the Taser. The officer says he thought Tracy was going to shoot him with the Taser, so he drew his service pistol. Then he says Tracy dropped the Taser and got on the ground.
According to online court documents, Tracy has been charged with a Class A Felony for Assault in the First Degree- Serious Physical Injury or Special Victim; a Class D Felony for Disarming a Peace or Correctional Officer; and a Class E Felony for Third-Degree Domestic Assault. Bond has been set at $50,000 cash only.
Tracy’s initial hearing is pending at Linn County Circuit Court.
