A Franklin resident has been charged with a felony for allegedly having a tampered with eating utensil in his Howard County Jail cell on January 23.
According to a statement from authorities, a jailer found a spoon that appeared to have been filed or worn down to a sharp point on the handle end, giving it the appearance of a “shank” that could be used to stab or injure another person. The spoon reportedly was found on the left side of the top bunk of a cell that was occupied by only one inmate.
Online court documents say 51-year-old Joey Alan Theiss has been charged with a Class B Felony for Possession of a Weapon at a County Jail. Bond has been set at $10,000 cash only.
Theiss’ initial hearing is pending at Howard County Circuit Court.
