After tabling a decision regarding a proposed block party by a business in Marshall during its meeting on February 19, the Marshall City Council considered the proposal again at its meeting on Monday, March 4.
Representatives of Bud’s Cafe were at the meeting and answered several questions from Fire Chief Tony Day about fire safety during the event, which is scheduled for Saturday, June 15.
Ward 3 Councilman Dan Brandt asked Police Chief Mike Donnell if this is going to present a traffic issue. And he asked if the other business owners in the area are on board, supportive of the event.
Representatives from the cafe said they will have staff on hand to help with clean up- the plan being the next morning nobody will ever know there was a block party.
Donnell offered another piece of advice.
Brandt said the city wants to continue to promote events like this. In the end, the council voted to approve the block party. During the event, the city will suspend the ordinance for “Drinking in Public” for the area on Lafayette Avenue- from Arrow to Morgan Streets. That section of roadway also will be closed to traffic- blocked off by cones.
