Two of the three Saline County Commissioners attended a meeting in Blue Springs on Friday, March 1, regarding rural broadband.
While Presiding Commissioner Kile Guthrey Jr. was participating in Government Day at the courthouse in Marshall, Northern District Commissioner Stephanie Gooden and Southern District Commissioner Monte Fenner made the trip to Blue Springs. During the meeting of the commission on Tuesday, March 5, Gooden talked about some of what happened at the broadband meeting.
Gooden said a panel has been formed by Congressman Emanuel Cleaver to help get broadband services to rural areas. Gooden said some government funds are available for Saline County Commissioners to apply for in an effort to bring fast and reliable internet service to rural residents in the county. She said “That is next on the commissioners’ list. So, we are moving forward to hopefully bring rural broadband to the areas of Saline County that are in desperate need of it.”
Gooden says “it’s way past due.”
