An area high school is scheduled to host a free program designed to inform parents about teen driving risks in Pettis County on Wednesday, March 20
According to a news release, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the “First Impact” program is scheduled to be held at Smith-Cotton High School at 2010 Tiger Pride Boulevard in Sedalia.
First Impact is a free, traffic safety program designed to educate parents about the state’s Graduated Driver License (GDL) law. The law requires all first-time drivers between 15 and 18 years old to complete a period of driving with a licensed driver (instruction permit), and restricted driving (intermediate license), before getting a full driver license.
The goal of First Impact is to help reduce the number of motor vehicle fatalities, injuries and crashes among teen drivers by increasing parental awareness and enforcement of the GDL law. The program also will help parents understand teen driving risks and habits, enforcement and monitoring of the law, as well as providing tips to be a positive role model by instilling good driving habits.
