The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for all of the KMMO listening area for most of Wednesday, March 13, and all of Thursday, March 14.
According to a release from the Pettis County Sheriff’s office, as a potent storm system moves through the area, southerly winds are expected to increase to around 25 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts approaching 40 to 50 mph. Light to moderate rain is expected to accompany the wind, which will keep the ground wet. The strong winds may cause small tree branches to break, and the wet ground may cause some uprooting. Travel along east-to-west roadways will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles and trailers.
The strongest winds are expected to arrive around 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, and will last through about 10 p.m. on Thursday, March 14.
Affected areas include Saline, Carroll, Chariton, Cooper, Howard, Lafayette and Pettis Counties.
