A Sweet Springs man charged with a felony for allegedly assaulting an 89-year-old man last month is due to appear in court this week.
According to a probable-cause statement, a law-enforcement officer was dispatched to the 700 block of West Old Highway 40 to investigate the report of the assault on February 28. The elderly man was found on the cement floor of the shop with blood near his head.
Authorities talked to 57-year-old Danny Brian Thompson, who had made the call, and he reportedly admitted the two men were arguing, and he backhanded the elderly man who fell and hit his head when he landed.
Online court documents say Thompson has been charged with a Class D Felony for Assault in the Second Degree. Bond has been set at $15,000 cash or surety.
Thompson is scheduled for a case hearing at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20, at Saline County Circuit Court.
