A Linn man and a Sedalia woman each have been charged with felonies for allegedly breaking into a vehicle earlier this year in Pettis County.
A probable-cause statement says Sedalia Police officers responded to a report of a theft which occurred at a parking lot in the 1000 block of Thompson Boulevard on February 1. Officers noticed the victim’s vehicle was broken into as one of the windows was shattered with glass on the inside of the vehicle. The victim stated his backpack was missing which contained electronics, as well as his wallet with cash, credit cards and several personal identification cards.
Later in the day, an officer with the Jefferson City Police Department contacted Sedalia PD and stated 34-year-old Louie Valentine and 36-year-old Candace Jarrett were arrested following a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, a search of the suspects’ vehicle reportedly discovered the victim’s missing items, and Valentine was found to be in possession of a “window punch”. Also, both suspects were seen on video surveillance trying to make purchases with the victim’s credit cards at a store in Jefferson City prior to the traffic stop.
Online court documents say each suspect has been charged with a Class D Felony for Stealing of $750 or More. Valentine also was charged with an additional Class D Felony for First-Degree Property Damage with the Intent to Steal. Bond for each has not yet been set.
Initial hearings for each suspect is pending at Pettis County Circuit Court.
