A former Marshall Public School administrator will be returning for the 2019-20 school year.
According to a release from superintendent Dr. Carol Maher, Ian Verts has been hired as Marshall High School Principal. Verts and his family have chosen to return to Marshall after he spent a year as assistant principal at Nixa Middle School.
Verts will replace Jacob Sirna, who accepted a position in another school district earlier this year.
Dr. Maher says Sirna will be working together with Verts during the month of June to assure a seamless and comprehensive transition of the leadership role. Verts then will assume the duties of principal on July 1, 2019.
Verts has served as a teacher, coach and assistant principal in the Marshall district.
Dr. Maher says, “He brings historical knowledge and respect for tradition so important in a high school culture. During his interview with teachers and administrators, Mr. Verts expressed his enthusiasm for the direction set by Mr. Sirna. Both leaders share the same philosophy of student success, shared leadership and accountability for all.
“Marshall High School students and faculty have grown so impressively the past year under Mr. Sirna’s leadership. The Board and MPS Administration cannot thank him enough for the transformation he has directed and achieved in his year at MHS. We wish him the best as he returns to Columbia as principal of Rock Bridge High School. His presence has certainly represented the high standards and expectations the board and administration have set. Mr. Verts is the perfect individual to continue that strong leadership role.”
