A Blackburn man has been formally charged with felonies relating to a child abuse or neglect incident earlier this year in Saline County.
A probable-cause statement says personnel at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City informed the Saline County Sheriff’s Office of possible child abuse involving a 17-month old female patient on January 9. Hospital personnel stated the victim was noticed to have bruises and scratches on multiple areas on her body. The mother of the victim reportedly noticed the injuries after picking up the child from the residence of the biological father, 20-year-old Jeyden Johnson.
During an interview with Johnson, he allegedly admitted to being stressed out and lost patience with having to care for the victim for an extended period of time which caused him to be too aggressive with her. Johnson stated the victim sustained some of the injuries from falling down concrete steps and playing with a rocking horse. Also, Johnson said he was remorseful for the injures the child sustained.
Online court documents say Johnson has been charged with a Class B Felony for Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the First-Degree and a Class D Felony for Abuse or Neglect of a Child. Bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety.
An initial hearing for Johnson is pending at Saline County Circuit Court.
