An area school was on lock down for a period of time on Tuesday, April 23.
According to a post on the Benton County Sheriff’s Department’s Facebook page, at approximately 10 a.m., dispatch was notified by federal authorities of a possible pending offense against Lincoln R-2 School by one or more students. The FBI reportedly monitors social media for key words in the same text like bomb, shoot, kill, gun and school.
The school was locked down for approximately two hours as personnel from the sheriff’s office and the Lincoln Police Department worked together in contacting the identified juveniles and searching for any harmful materials.
The juveniles said that they never intended to act on their statements, and it was all a fantasy.
The post also said at least one student will be referred to the juvenile authority, and the school will take appropriate disciplinary action.
Authorities encourage parents to talk to their children about what is acceptable on social media and how to be responsible with social-media accounts.
