A Brookfield man and Marceline woman each face drug-related felonies after a traffic stop and a search of motel room allegedly discovered them to be selling methamphetamine earlier this week in Linn County.
A probable-cause statement says Brookfield Police officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a break light not functioning just after midnight on Monday, April 29. A passenger, 36-year-old Gary Christopher Smith, reportedly was found in possession of two used syringes in his pants and a small baggie in his month. Smith reportedly told the officers he ate the contents of the baggie which he stated was a small amount of methamphetamine. Smith also was found in possession of a controlled medication without a prescription. The driver of the vehicle reportedly was not in possession of anything illegal.
Later that morning, officers were informed that Smith and 32-year-old Tiffany Mayfield allegedly were selling drugs from an area motel room. A search of their motel room discovered drug-distribution items, drug paraphernalia and approximately 78 grams of methamphetamine.
Online court documents say each suspect has been charged with a Class A Felony for Trafficking Drugs or Attempting in the First Degree. Smith also was charged with two counts of a Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance and a Class E Felony for Tampering with Physical Evidence in a Felony Prosecution. Bond for each has not been set yet.
An initial hearing for each subject is pending at Linn County Circuit Court.
