An area state lawmaker has been honored for her efforts to improve Missouri’s election policy.
According to a news release, for her efforts to ensure Missouri’s elections are conducted in a fair and ethical manner, Peggy McGaugh, who represents the 39th District in the House of Representatives- residents in Ray, Chariton and Carroll Counties- recently received the Excellence in Election Policy Award. House Speaker Elijah Haahr recognized McGaugh as a “Freshman Legislator of the Year,” and presented the award for election policy excellence to her in recognition of her legislative work and her leadership on the House Elections and Elected Officials Committee.
McGaugh currently serves as the vice-chair of the elections committee, where she and her committee members have worked on a number of bills to protect and preserve the integrity of the election process in Missouri. She also is the sponsor of several pieces of legislation, including bills that would improve the absentee voting process and the initiative petition process.
“I am honored and humbled to be recognized by the Speaker for work that has been a priority for me throughout my career as a public servant,” said McGaugh, R-Carrollton. “Missourians deserve free and fair elections, and I will continue to do everything I can to defend the integrity of the voting process while I serve in the legislature.”
McGaugh has more than three decades of experience in the Carroll County Clerk’s office and has also served as a member of the Secretary of State’s Voter Integrity Task Force.
