A homeless woman and a Columbia man each face a felony charge for an alleged vehicle theft incident where the vehicle reportedly broke down last month in Howard County.
A probable cause statement says Howard County deputies responded to a disturbance in progress at a residence on County Road 109 near Fayette on April 30. The reporting party stated a white female–later identified as 24-year-old Rebecca Bell–came to the residence asking for help as male was threatening her.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the male subject, 35-year-old Larry Williams, who stated a verbal argument with Bell began as a van they both were traveling in had stalled nearby. Williams stated the van was owned by a friend, but reportedly could not give a name. Williams and Bell were arrested after deputies discovered the van was reported as stolen out of Boone County.
Online court documents say each subject has been charged with a Class D Felony for Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree. Bond for each was set at $10,000 cash or surety.
Each is scheduled to appear for an arraignment hearing at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, at Howard County Circuit Court.
