A 36-year-old Columbia man who reportedly was in the roadway suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Saline County on Thursday.
A report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred as an eastbound vehicle, driven by 58-year-old Michael Davis, of Boonville, was passing an eastbound Peterbilt, driven by 24-year-old Aderly Ortiz-Perez, of Guadalupe, Mexico. Davis attempted but was unable to avoid striking a pedestrian in the roadway. Ortiz-Perez also swerved his vehicle to try to avoid Davis’ vehicle. Ortiz-Perez’s vehicle traveled off the roadway, impacted a guard rail and two pillars.
While neither driver reportedly was injured, Anton Zagonenko was transported to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.
The accident happened at 1:15 a.m. at the 85.8 mile marker on I-70.
