A Kansas City man has been charged with multiple felonies after being arrested following a high-speed chase through an area county on Wednesday, May 8.
According to a post on the Brookfield Police Department’s Facebook page, just after 3 p.m., officers received a report of a small, black passenger car traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 36 at a high rate of speed and failing to maintain a lane. At 3:06 p.m., officers observed the vehicle traveling well over the posted speed limit. Officers attempted to make a traffic stop approximately one mile East of Missouri Highway 11, but the driver of the vehicle ignored the officer’s emergency lights and sirens and continued eastbound while maintaining speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. The vehicle repeatedly encroached into the officers’ lane of travel almost sideswiping the patrol cars. After avoiding several spike-strip deployments, officers were able to safely disable the vehicle and bring the pursuit to an end just inside the Macon city limits.
Upon making contact with the driver- 40-year-old Khamis Pitiya- officers observed several signs of impairment. A routine NCIC/MULES check of Pitiya also showed three felony warrants out of Platte County, with bond totaling $30,000 cash only. Pitiya was arrested at 3:25 p.m. and refused to provide a sample of his breath, so a warrant was obtained for a sample of Pitiya’s blood.
Online court documents say Pitiya has been charged with eight counts of a Class E Felony for Resisting Arrest By Fleeing- Creating a Substantial Risk of Serious Injury or Death to any Person; and two counts of an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. The Facebook post says bond has been set at $100,000 cash only, and additional charges are pending the results of the blood draw.
The Brookfield Police Department was assisted by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Bucklin Police Department, Macon County Sheriff’s Office, Macon Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Linn County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
