A Sedalia man has been charged with a felony for allegedly stealing copper wire from a business and later selling it.
A probable-cause statement says authorities allege that Jose Alfredo Portillo-Ortega took wiring from RCL Wiring at 415 South Marshall Avenue. Authorities say they are able to attribute $23,000 worth of theft to Portillo-Ortega in what has been paid out by Advantage Metals. However, the victim reportedly is out more than $37,000 worth of materials from February through early May 2019.
Online court documents say a warrant has been issued, and Portillo-Ortega has been charged with a Class D Felony for Stealing of $750 or More. Bond has been fixed at $50,000 cash or surety.
Portillo-Ortega’s initial hearing is pending at Pettis County Circuit Court.
