Area firefighters responded to a blaze which reportedly started in the kitchen area of an historic building in Saline County on Friday, May 17.
According on a news release, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Saline County Rural Fire with assistance from the Marshall Fire Department responded to a reported fire at the J. Huston Tavern in Arrow Rock.
Upon arrival, firefighters began working on the blaze which was put out and contained in the kitchen area. Reportedly, the fire did not spread anywhere else in the 19th century building. However, there was extensive smoke damage throughout the first floor, and the second floor had little to no smoke damage. Reportedly, the cause of the blaze was determined to be an electrical fire which originated from a piece of kitchen equipment.
No injuries were reported from the scene, and the cost in damages is undetermined at this time.
However, management at the J. Huston Tavern have decided to close the establishment for the foreseeable future and will announce a reopen date once repairs are made. Also, management said they would like to thank the firefighters for their quick response to contain the fire from spreading and damaging the historic part of the building.
