The public is encouraged to attend as The Stepping Up Initiative and Pettis County Mental Health Coalition are sponsoring their second annual community town hall meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, at Convention Hall at 1500 West 3rd in Sedalia. Sub sandwiches will be served at 5 p.m., and the program begins at 5:30.
“Steps Along the Journey to a Mentally Healthy Community” is being presented in conjunction with “May as Mental Health Awareness Month” and The Stepping Up Initiative’s nationwide “Day of Action” to recognize the program’s fourth year in operation. Over 490 counties across the United States have signed on to The Stepping Up Initiative, one of the first being Pettis County.
Sedalia Police Officer Mark Cherry and Community Mental Health Liaison Courtney Johnson will be teaming up with Pettis County Sheriff Kevin Bond to speak about the developments of dealing with mental illness in the community. Special segments also will be presented on local initiatives, including:
· The Zero Suicide Project;
· The W.I.N. Initiative;
· The ACT-TAY Team;
· The Trauma Informed Approaches; and
· The Community Connections Program.
Resource tables also will be set up to give participants an opportunity to learn more about particular topics and how they can get involved.
