The Missouri River is out of its banks at numerous locations, with one being at Brunswick in Chariton County.
Chariton County Emergency Management Agency Director Eric McKenzie says he doesn’t know how much higher the river will get, but they want to be prepared for anything. He said the plan is for volunteers to meet at city hall.

Governor Mike Parson has activated the National Guard to help with the sandbagging effort in Brunswick, and McKenzie says they arrived and began work at 6 a.m. today. McKenzie says the city still is asking for volunteers. However, he is concerned with the ever-changing levels of area rivers, creeks and streams and many road closures, the town is slowly becoming an island and will be difficult for area residents who want to volunteer to get there.

McKenzie said they are scheduled to meet at 8:30 a.m. at city hall and hopefully start sandbagging by 9 a.m. He said if you would like to volunteer and need directions or need more information, call Brunswick City Hall at (660) 548-3048.
