An area school district is taking appropriate security measures after a written threat was discovered on its campus in Saline County on Tuesday, May 28.
According to a news release from the Marshall Public School District, high school staff was notified of a message that was found written in a boys bathroom stall. The message read “On the last day of school, they will ALL learn,” and had a picture of what appeared to be a handgun drawn underneath it. The message has been removed and was investigated.
After collaborating with the police department, MPS has decided to take extra security precautions on the last two days of school as there will be extra uniformed police officers present at the high school.
A letter written by Marshall High School Principal Jacob Sirna says– “We do not believe this to be a credible threat, and instead, feel it is an act of vandalism. Since we cannot be sure of the credibility of the writing, we are taking appropriate security measures to keep our students and staff safe. We are alerting you to this issue because we know it is the right thing to do. We also know that collectively, we are stronger than we are in isolation. It is important that we are all aware of this act of vandalism so we can each do our part to monitor our students. Please speak to your students, friends, and family members about the inappropriateness of writing a comment such as this one in a public location. If you know anything about this written statement, we would appreciate you reaching out to us and letting us know. Our hope is that by bringing this to the attention of all MHS Families, we are proving to you our commitment to keep all students and staff safe and secure at school.”
