There is more good news for travelers and residents in Chariton County.
According to a news release from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), both lanes of U.S. Highway 24 between Brunswick and DeWitt were reopened Thursday, June 20.
However, several area roadways remain closed due to flooding, including Highway 41 from the U.S. Highway 24 junction to Miami; Highway 10 between Carrollton and Norborne; and U.S. Highway 65 between Carrollton and Waverly.
Be aware that flooding may occur with little or no notice. Even though you have a planned route, you may come upon water-covered roadways. MoDOT crews and their partners are monitoring road conditions closely, but flood waters can rise quickly, sometimes before crews and other emergency services are able to place barricades across the roadways.
MoDOT says If you come across a flooded roadway, do not drive through the water.
