As flood waters begin to recede in many parts of the state, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is working diligently to assess damages and determine repairs needed to state roadways.
According to a news release from MoDOT, from April 29 through June 14, it closed more than 470 different routes in all 114 counties due to flooding. And before streets with damaged surfaces or shoulders can be reopened, they must be evaluated to determine the extent of damage done and the work needed to repair them. MoDOT will continue to evaluate the damage and decide whether repairs will need to be completed by the agency or by external contractors.
MoDOT will simultaneously work through the process to obtain detailed damage assessments to apply for federal funding to assist with the repairs. This process is not expected to delay making emergency repairs to get the roadways back open as soon as possible.
