The Missouri State Highway Patrol wants to remind travelers to make smart choices over the Independence Day holiday.
According to a news release, during the 30-hour counting period in 2018, four people were killed and 220 were injured in the state in 437 traffic crashes. Troopers also arrested 40 people for driving while intoxicated.
The patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort) over the holiday weekend.
In addition, a 2019 Independence Day DWI Enforcement operation will be in effect during the long weekend.
The 2019 counting period will be from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 7.
