The Missouri State Highway Patrol wants to remind travelers to make smart choices when traveling over the July Fourth holiday and be safe.
During the 30-hour counting period in 2018, four people were killed and 220 were injured in the state over the holiday in 437 traffic crashes. Troopers also arrested 40 people for driving while intoxicated during the same time period.
According to a news release the Highway Patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort) over the holiday weekend. In addition, a 2019 Independence Day DWI Enforcement operation will be in effect during the long weekend.
The 2019 counting period for the July Fourth holiday weekend will be from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3 until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 7.
