An area law-enforcement agency has posted important information relating to registering for disaster assistance.
According to a post on the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department’s Facebook page, for anybody who has been affected by the flooding- to register for disaster assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), you need to call (800) 621-FEMA (3362). If you use TTY, the number is: (800) 462-7585.
Also, for 7-1-1 or Video Relay Service (VRS), the number is (800) 621-3362.
The release says you need to have several bits of information handy when you call, including your address with zip code; directions to your property; condition of your damaged home; insurance information, if available; Social Security Number; phone number where you can be contacted; and the address where you get mail.
Disaster-assistance funds can be sent via direct deposit to your bank account, but you will need to provide your account information.
When you register, you will be given a FEMA registration number. You are urged to write it down and save it, because you will need that number whenever you contact FEMA.
Online registration also is available at DisasterAssistance.gov.
