The list of major highways closed due to flooding in the KMMO listening area continues to get shorter.
According to MoDOT Northwest District Area Engineer, Randy Mendenhall, Highway 41 from Miami to Highway 24 has been opened earlier than expected. Mendenhall says following an on-site inspection on Wednesday, MoDOT should be able to provide a temporary repair to the highway. The plan is to open the roadway to traffic with one lane down the center of the road. Temporary signals will be installed at each end for traffic control. More extensive repairs will be completed by contract at a late date.
Also, Highway 240 west of Glasgow, in Saline County, which had been closed for a lengthy period of time, was officially reopened to traffic. He said, though, “We have a small spot on the edge (where the water remains), and we’re going to cone it off. We’re going to be down there doing some edge work for about the next two weeks. We will actually have one of the water-over-the-road signs still in place because of that water close to the edge.”
Only one major highway in Carroll County remains closed. .
According to MODOT’s Traveler Information map, Highway 65, between Carrollton and Waverly is the only major highway that remains completely closed off to traffic due to flooding.
