During the meeting of the Saline County Commission on Thursday, August 1, Southern District Commissioner Monte Fenner talked about a forum the commissioners attended on Tuesday, July 30, in Blue Springs.
Fenner said approximately six years ago U.S. Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II set up an Ag-advisory committee which includes representatives from Jackson, Lafayette, Saline and Ray Counties. Three times a year, he sets up a forum and invites officials from Washington D.C. and other places to meet with this group.
Earlier this spring, Fenner said he and Northern District Commissioner Stephanie Gooden met with the FCC Commissioner out of Washington D.C. Fenner said the forum on July 30 included Missouri Governor Mike Parson. He said two topics were of major importance, including the Missouri River and the flooding that has ravaged the area over the past several months.
Fenner said the congressman said he was going to go back to Washington D.C. and try to figure out some way that might help fix the problem of every year having problems with the Missouri River.
Fenner said tariffs also were discussed.
Fenner said Cleaver and Parson are working together with a common goal in mind- “To help agriculture and business here in the state of Missouri.”
