A Smithton man was killed in a fiery traffic crash on Interstate 70 during the early morning hours Friday, August 9.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred when the eastbound vehicle driven by 46-year-old Aaron Poindexter of Troy, struck the eastbound vehicle driven by 35-year-old Kelvin Shepherd of Wichita, Kansas. Poindexter’s vehicle then crossed the median in the eastbound lanes and overturned. A westbound Kenworth, driven by 65-year-old Dale Jorgenson of Smithton struck the towed unit of Poindexter’s vehicle and exploded on impact.
Both, Poindexter and Shepherd reportedly received minor injuries and were transported by Cooper County Ambulance to Pinnacle Regional Hospital for treatment.
Jorgenson was pronounced deceased just before 4 a.m. by Cooper County Deputy Coroner, Chris Howard.
The crash happened at 3:18 a.m. on Interstate 70 Eastbound at the 98.4 mile marker.
