A 58-year-old Sweet Springs man who was charged with a felony for allegedly assaulting an elderly man on February 28 entered a plea during his arraignment hearing this week.
According to a probable-cause statement, a law-enforcement officer was dispatched to the 700 block of West Old Highway 40 to investigate the report of the assault. The elderly man was found on the cement floor of the shop with blood near his head.
Authorities talked to Danny Brian Thompson, who had made the call, and he reportedly admitted the two men were arguing. He said the elderly man got in his face, so he backhanded the elderly man. He said the victim fell and hit his head when he landed.
Online court documents say on Monday, August 12, Thompson pleaded guilty to a Class D Felony for Assault in the Second Degree at Saline County Circuit Court.
The court accepted Thompson’s plea as voluntary and suspended the imposition of sentence and placed him on five years of supervised probation.
