The Slater School Board started their meeting Wednesday, August 21 with a tax rate hearing and Slater School District Superintendent, Debbie Gonzalez says the board approved the rates.

Gonzalez said she and the two school principals were eager to share the excitement they were feeling for the first day of school following three days of team building and training exercises with school staff.

Superintendent, Debbie Gonzalez said the board discussed a couple of projects the district worked on over the summer. She said the Wildcat Fitness Center was made possible through donations from the community and alumni and from left over bond money the district had available.

She said the district made a lot of improvements to the softball/football fields they acquired from the city back in the spring.

In other news Gonzalez said the board made a few minor changes to the handbooks.
