After a public hearing, the Glasgow Board of Aldermen approved an ordinance to set the city’s tax levy on Monday, August 26.
According to unofficial minutes, the approved the rates were: general revenue $0.5713, parks and recreation $0.2687; library $0.2500; and debt service $0.3461; for a total rate of $1.4361 per $100 of assessed valuation on real and personal property. The city clerk pointed out that the rate decreased slightly from 2018. City Attorney Randall Barron explained the city has voter approval for a higher rate for the park and library funds; and the rate proposed has reached the ceiling allowed by the state. The rate has to be approved by the Secretary of State’s Office.
In other news, aldermen gave their approval of the purchase of a SC200 Filter for $2,268 to replace the SC100 at the water plant; and a contract agreement for concrete testing.
A decision also was made to put an ad for bids in a couple of newspapers for repair/construction of sidewalks. The work to be done will be based on the International Business Code and to bring the sidewalks up to the grade of the existing ground.
